Winter is coming close and closer, and it’s high time to get prepared for the cold times. You are already going shopping and are you preparing your skin for the cold? Let’s consider some beauty tips that will help you glow in the winter.
Take Shorter Warm Showers
Extended time under hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, depleting moisture and leaving your once supple skin dry and irritated. Turn down the heat, exfoliate with a non-foaming cleanser, keep the shower short and once you’ve stepped out immediately apply moisturizer to your damp skin. If you have extra-sensitive skin, simply lather coconut oil onto your body before you enter the shower, and gently wash with a cotton cloth. Coconut oil and olive oil are excellent facial cleansers if your skin is dry or dehydrated, and are even able to remove makeup.
Keep Hydrated
Drink as much water as you need or even more and try swapping coffee for herbal and green teas because caffeinated and alcoholic beverages dehydrate your skin.
Moisturize
Use emollients such as healing jojoba, sweet almond, or Moroccan argan oil to replenish moisture. Always moisturize when skin is slightly damp. Lock moisture in place before outdoor activities with occlusive ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter. Apply moisturizer at least 30 minutes to an hour before heading outdoors. Avoid any skin care product containing alcohol and sodium lauryl sulphate, which can dehydrate skin. After an excursion in the frigid outdoors, avoid rushing to sit in front of a roaring fire. Temperature extremes stress skin.
Sun Savvy
It may be cold out, but a great deal of sun damage can happen while we pursue winter sports such as skiing and skating. Protect skin with natural sun blocks such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Wear UVA- and UVB-blocking shades to shield eyes and prevent wrinkles from squinting.
Take Care Of Your Lips
For kissable winter lips forget the gloss and reach for lip balm instead. Look for lip care products containing lysine, and boost intake of lysine-containing foods such as eggs, fish, and lima beans. For supple lip skin, roll on a balm containing nourishing castor oil, olive oil, vitamin E, and cocoa butter.
Banish Makeup Woes
To prevent a makeup misdemeanour choose a silicon based eyeliner over a wax based one and for extra eye care keep a bottle of eye drops handy. Add an extra layer of insurance with waterproof mascara.
